    WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL?

Tourism is the world’s fastest growing industry. Traveling to far flung places gives us a wonderful opportunity to experience cultures that are so different from our own. But with the wondrous joy of travel comes the responsibility of ensuring that we do not adversely affect those countries that we visit. In a nutshell, Responsible Travel is about ensuring that you, as travelers, and Fiore Adventure, as a promoter of travel:

    • respect the local culture
    • do not inadvertently introduce new social ills and
    • promote & practice environmental responsibility in the places that we visit

That way, you enjoy a unique and memorable experience as well as authentic cross-cultural exchange and our local resources, cultures and customs are protected.

It has always been at the heart of Fiore Adventure’ ethos to not exploit local communities’ culture and environment.

    What you can do:

    • Learn something about Croatia: culture, religion, geography, politics and local customs.I strongly recommend to get a good travel guide such as Lonely Planet guides or Croatian Tourism Board. They are very useful before and during your staying.
    • Try to speak at least a few words of Croatian, you will make a big impression by doing it and it’s also a show of respect and interest on your part.
    • In many places fresh water is a very precious commodity and should not be wasted, so use a minimum for showering and washing, especially when you are on islands, tap water is drinkable throughout Croatia
    • Turn out the lights or air condition when you leave your room, use the public transport as much as you can, minimize your waste generally
    • Pick up your litter, never live any trace in nature, when you are in rural areas please stay to the trails and don’t damage or take any plants or flowers

    Packing list – adventure travel
One word: versatility. Your destination and the duration of time you’re traveling generally dictates what—and how much—to bring along. But whether you’re living out of your bag for two weeks or four months, pack clothes that can do double duty, ones that are functional enough for the trail but sharp enough not to stand out in a city. Sun hats can become rain hats, backpacks with detachable daypacks free your hands when lugging your gear from bus stop to hotel, and a good pair of travel pants with a concealed zipper pocket could stand in for a money belt.

When it comes to clothing, stay away from cotton (or at least aim for poly/cotton blends; it may be comfortable, but it takes forever to dry), and try for wrinkle-free clothes. Pack one nice outfit for that must-have dinner in a Parisian café, and always have pants or a skirt that’s long enough to cover your legs should you be traveling in a country where custom dictates a degree of modesty. In warmer climes, you’ll naturally be packing lighter. In cooler locales, layering will stretch your wardrobe. Another piece of advice: darker colors generally blend in anywhere, let you mix and match without becoming a fashion accident, and save the hassle of constant washing. And if you’re heading someplace with inexpensive markets and shopping (Southeast Asia, for example), you can always buy a few new items when the need or desire strikes.

In the brave new world of bags, you can get a rolling bag/backpack hybrid that gives you the versatility, and the newer generation of rollers come with wheels that swallow up Central European cobblestone as much as NYC asphalt. But if you’re uncertain, let your interest be your guide. Trekking in Annapurna? Go with a traditional backpack. Crawling the pavement of South America’s metropolises? A rolling bag will save your back and serve you well.

Island hopping Croatia walking tour was absolutely wonderful! It was completely customizable to our needs. We got to see so much of Croatia in a short time. The hotels they chose were all excellent hotels and the free breakfasts were amazing! Perfect. We used the app for navigation during our hikes.

Our Croatia walking tour was fantastic. I would HIGHLY recommend Fiore Tours without hesitation. We had excellent service and absolutely no problems along the way.It was such a treat to be pampered in this way. I am used to doing all of the logistics myself and not worrying about ferry times and what time to leave hotels and what to do was priceless. Our accommodations were great throughout. Breakfast options varied from okay to superb. Split: We arrived 2 days prior and stayed in an Airbnb a few blocks from our arranged hotel. Appreciated so much that the transfer was set up to meet us from the Airport and took us to the Airbnb. Jupiter Hotel was nice. Room was big and we had a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. Great location right in the heart of the old town. Met with the tour rep in the lobby and went through all the materials. Transfer was set to harbor. Driver contacted me the day prior to confirm time and location. This transfer was not really needed. The walk was about the same to the meeting point as it would have been to the ferry. There was a benefit that they pointed exactly where to go but it was silly to have a ride for such a short distance. Appreciated you everyday for having all ferry times and tickets prearranged. Hvar: Hotel staff was at the dock to take luggage. Totally unnecessary. Hotel Adriana was fantastic. They greeted us with champagne and gave us a complimentary upgrade with a port view, which was spectacular. This was the smallest room we had but with the view, it didn’t matter. I was able to lay in bed and enjoy the view. The bar upstairs was amazing, likely the best view in town. The breakfast was spectacular. I could have sat there all day eating. Walked to taxi station shortly after arriving. There was some confusion with the driver not having the correct name but we figured out it out without any problem. Transfer great. Driver super friendly. Hike was beautiful. > I would have appreciated recommendations for placed to go swimming. The cove at Robinson’s restaurant would have been a great place to stop and swim. We continued and there wasn’t anything better along the way that was easily accessible. Later read that that was the best place to swim on the island. Korcula: Another seamless transfer and ferry ride. Transfer from ferry to hotel not necessary. It took longer to drive than to walk but that same driver took us to the drop off point. I didn’t like the driver. He was rushing us for no apparent reason. We later went to the beach and the same company drove us back to the hotel. Still charged us the upper limit for the ride. If they gave us a better rate they would have received a better tip…. I’d go with a different company. The drive from Hotel to Ferry wasn’t necessary. If we stayed at one of the other hotels it might be necessary. Hotel Korsal was nice but didn’t love it. It was a Heritage Hotel but didn’t feel like it. Window was small and had to stand right in front of it to see the view. Not a lot of character to the rooms. Breakfast was excellent and lovely seating area with a view of the harbor. >I wasn’t feeling great that day so we shortened the hike. Had coffee in the town we were dropped off and then had a lovely hike. Mljet: Our favorite day!! Hike was challenging but fabulous. Views from the high points were amazing. After we got back down the the water we took a swim under the bridge. Hardly saw anyone during the day. I was swimming in the lake and I felt like I was the only person there. Again would have appreciated swimming spot suggestions. Where we swam was perfect and we were so glad we did because there weren’t any other swim spots past the bridge that I saw. Beautiful hike and swim!!! Hotel Odisej: Room, bathroom and shower were small but loved that we had a small balcony with harbor view.Food was horrible here. Dinner was included but worst that airplane food. Rubbery beef and tuna. Desserts were inedible. Nothing was good. If we would have know we definitely would have gone somewhere else. There were a few other places still open. Breakfast was only marginally better. Dubrovnik: Met at ferry by driver. He was great and he arranged other transfers. Met tour guide who took us to hotel to drop bags. I didn’t love the guide. He was a really nice guy. It was a little disjointed because he was mixing info about the history of the city with Game of Thrones. It was hard to get a clear picture of the city. It was fine, just not fantastic. We should have stayed an additional day in Dubrovnik. We spent the next day touring and didn’t make it to Lopud. I would have enjoyed that but we needed to get back. I wanted to see more of Dubrovnik and we had a great day. Hotel Prijeko Palace: I loved the hotel!! Beautiful art, totally eclectic. We had room 301 which was a little odd as we walked through the restaurant to get to our room. It made it different, odd and fun. The restaurant was a Michelin restaurant and we ate on the roof with an amazing view of the city. We had the entire restaurant to ourselves. It was a fantastic night. Highly recommend people stay there!! Room was fun with each room dedicated to an artist, decorated with their art. I think I would add to your itinerary an optional extra night in Hvar and Dubrovnik. Possibly doing the trip starting in Dubrovnik and ending in Split. I would not hesitate recommending Fiore Tours. There was so much relief not having to work out the logistics. So much time is spent doing that when you are unfamiliar with a place. Also appreciated not having to book hotels. You did a great job! I am already looking for our next adventure.
