    WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL?

Tourism is the world’s fastest growing industry. Traveling to far flung places gives us a wonderful opportunity to experience cultures that are so different from our own. But with the wondrous joy of travel comes the responsibility of ensuring that we do not adversely affect those countries that we visit. In a nutshell, Responsible Travel is about ensuring that you, as travelers, and Fiore Adventure, as a promoter of travel:

    • respect the local culture
    • do not inadvertently introduce new social ills and
    • promote & practice environmental responsibility in the places that we visit

That way, you enjoy a unique and memorable experience as well as authentic cross-cultural exchange and our local resources, cultures and customs are protected.

It has always been at the heart of Fiore Adventure’ ethos to not exploit local communities’ culture and environment.

    • Learn something about Croatia: culture, religion, geography, politics and local customs.I strongly recommend to get a good travel guide such as Lonely Planet guides or Croatian Tourism Board. They are very useful before and during your staying.
    • Try to speak at least a few words of Croatian, you will make a big impression by doing it and it’s also a show of respect and interest on your part.
    • In many places fresh water is a very precious commodity and should not be wasted, so use a minimum for showering and washing, especially when you are on islands, tap water is drinkable throughout Croatia
    • Turn out the lights or air condition when you leave your room, use the public transport as much as you can, minimize your waste generally
    • Pick up your litter, never live any trace in nature, when you are in rural areas please stay to the trails and don’t damage or take any plants or flowers

    Packing list – adventure travel
One word: versatility. Your destination and the duration of time you’re traveling generally dictates what—and how much—to bring along. But whether you’re living out of your bag for two weeks or four months, pack clothes that can do double duty, ones that are functional enough for the trail but sharp enough not to stand out in a city. Sun hats can become rain hats, backpacks with detachable daypacks free your hands when lugging your gear from bus stop to hotel, and a good pair of travel pants with a concealed zipper pocket could stand in for a money belt.

When it comes to clothing, stay away from cotton (or at least aim for poly/cotton blends; it may be comfortable, but it takes forever to dry), and try for wrinkle-free clothes. Pack one nice outfit for that must-have dinner in a Parisian café, and always have pants or a skirt that’s long enough to cover your legs should you be traveling in a country where custom dictates a degree of modesty. In warmer climes, you’ll naturally be packing lighter. In cooler locales, layering will stretch your wardrobe. Another piece of advice: darker colors generally blend in anywhere, let you mix and match without becoming a fashion accident, and save the hassle of constant washing. And if you’re heading someplace with inexpensive markets and shopping (Southeast Asia, for example), you can always buy a few new items when the need or desire strikes.

In the brave new world of bags, you can get a rolling bag/backpack hybrid that gives you the versatility, and the newer generation of rollers come with wheels that swallow up Central European cobblestone as much as NYC asphalt. But if you’re uncertain, let your interest be your guide. Trekking in Annapurna? Go with a traditional backpack. Crawling the pavement of South America’s metropolises? A rolling bag will save your back and serve you well.

We really enjoyed it. We were happy with most aspects. Firstly the correspondence since my first enquiry has been amazing. All my queries were answered promptly. The route was great and we appreciated the lift out of Trieste because it was too busy for our bikes. The bikes were great. We had already done a cycle trip with another company and your bikes were much more comfortable and better to ride. Most of the accomodation was good and sometimes better but my only complaint is the accomodation in Pula. We stayed at Hotel Amfiteater and it was very poor. Our hotel room wasn’t very clean and it had a terrible smell. The corridors also smelled very bad. I would never stay there again and I wonder how often you review the hotels that you use. Thanks for a great trip, Angela

<div The bikes were great and Ilija helped us get started, including adding our preferred pedals at the last minute. The route info was also great. We appreciated the prompt rescue by “H” during the bura one morning. Again, in hindsight, if we had waited a few hours to start, we could have completed that day on 2 wheels but we enjoyed the extra time in Rovinj. Our favorite hotel was Hotel Petreani in Labin. Our less favorites were Hotel Lovac (minimal restaurant choices, no store and no actual city to visit) and Vila Lili (hotel and rooms very crowded with trinkets). However, all the hotels were clean, had helpful staff, good breakfasts and therefore very acceptable. Thanks again for an excellent experience.

Tony and I have been home for a couple of weeks now and are missing Croatia’s lovely warm weather, great food, blue seas and friendly faces! I thought I’d give you some feedback on our tour – which we thoroughly enjoyed! Firstly, SO HAPPY we changed to e-bikes. I would never have coped with the up hill to Draguc without mine! E bikes made the distances and terrain achievable. The briefing was good and thorough. Our bikes’ brakes weren’t working that well, but the next day (I’m sorry I forgot his name) the man who did the briefing adjusted and fixed them for us. The combination of map with instructions worked well. The instructions need to be updated to include the cycle lanes near Umago on the first day of cycling. The only time we got a bit worried was when leaving Rovinj. When we got to the main road, we weren’t absolutely sure we were in the right place. Maybe after the roundabout on the way out of town, some landmarks could be mentioned, eg supermarkets or whatever, just to give assurance. Accommodation comments. The first night’s accommodation was out of town, and there wasn’t anywhere to go for a walk, and obviously no choice on where to have dinner. The rest of the tour accommodation was fine – plenty of opportunity to go walk about and stretch the legs, and apart from Buzet, plenty of choices for dinner. The Hotel Peteani at Labin was excellent, an absolute highlight! We arrived dripping wet – our bikes were taken from us and we were shown to our room – which was perfect. It even had a conservatory where we could take our wet clothes and gear and dry them overnight. After a walk around the old town, we decided to have dinner back at the hotel, and it was so good I wrote a review about it for Trip Advisor! The staff, the food, the wine, the service were all perfect. I could not want for more. The next morning’s breakfast was great and when we went downstairs our bikes were already at reception. I love that hotel!! Thanks to you and your team Lorena. Tony and I had a great time cycling Istria. We liked the variation from coastline to hills , forest and farms, and particularly enjoyed the truffles!

My husband and I had a fabulous trip around the beautiful Istrian peninsula. Everything went very well despite the very hot weather and the hills! The support worked out very well as we called on them to give us a lift for a partial ride on a very hilly day 3. All of the hotels were really lovely – hosts very welcoming, great food and accommodation. They were wonderful! The exception to this was our hotel in Pula: Galija. The room was garish in comparison to our other hotels. The electricity was out for a period of time (not their fault – ok) but even when it was on the air conditioning didn’t cool our room very well – an uncomfortable night. At times the directions were a bit off – maybe they need an update? But on the whole – excellent. Many thanks to all who contributed to make our trip so great. I look forward to another bike trip in the future.

We had a great time biking in Istria. Fiore tours did a superb job for us and we never felt completely on our own. We knew that if we needed help, we could call Fiore. And, in fact, we did call a couple of times, and Fiore was always there for us. Bowman Joseph and Patricia
